I have learned reiki, but I have found it to be just as effective without the hand symbols.
I feel that the energy transcends the physical and thus the hand symbols I believe are a helpful symbolism, yet not entirely necessary.

I just have to say there is no right or wrong way of doing it. All these rules in place maybe put in place to help people learn more effectively or dumb down the nature of this practice. But overall just do what works for you. We are universal beings we don’t need ego be restrained by these rules. As long as you’re doing it for good and only good.
