#HealthTip 2 – Arm Hangs With Variations | Lengthening & Decompressing The Spine

In this quick short I explain something I aspire to do daily. Get out there and hang from a bar. I recommended just hanging straight to begin with and just let your body loose except your hands to grip the bar well. When you get stronger or more comfortable with your body and are injury free, start to try the other variations.

This is a great way to lengthen the spine and let gravity do it’s work. It’s what’s known as an “Arm Hang”. Along with lengthening the spine, it also improves arm strength and basically decompresses the spine.

When we sit on office chairs all day, we are compressing the spine. Gravity pulling down on your head through your spine, and the seat you’re on exerting a force in the opposite direction, basically pushes your spine together or compresses it.

So from time to time, just like a good masseuse will help you do, we need to decompress the spine.
